Cricket Australia Announce Exclusive Use of the Kookaburra Turf Ball for the 2020/21 Marsh Sheffield Shield Season

Cricket Australia has today announced that Kookaburra balls will be used exclusively for Marsh Sheffield Shield matches in the 2020-21 season.

Peter Roach, Cricket Australia’s Head of Cricket Operations, said reverting to the traditional Kookaburra ball was the right move for Australian cricket at this time.

Brett Elliot, Kookaburra Sport Group Managing Director, said “Kookaburra is delighted to continue its long association with the Marsh Sheffield Shield”

“The Kookaburra ball, which is manufactured in Melbourne, has been used in Australian first-class cricket since the 1940’s.”

“Kookaburra is looking forward to the start of the Australian cricket season. We have worked very hard over many years in conjunction with boards around the world to develop a cricket ball that brings out all the skills of players, preserving the balance between bat and ball,” Elliot said. “We will continue to work with the sport to finetune our processes to produce the best possible cricket ball for the different formats.”

“This coming season we will continue trials with our new Kookaburra Smart Ball which we hope to have ready for 1st class cricket in the near future."
