Rob Keogh made his Northants debut in 2012, but his breakthrough innings came at the end of the following year when he made 221 against Hampshire in a late-season fixture. Life was gloomy for Northants as they were relegated in 2014, but at least Keogh retained his knack of a late-season flourish with a century in the final match against Sussex at Hove, providing further encouragement that he could play a leading role in Northants' recovery. His unbeaten 163 against Derbyshire at Derby was another redoubtable effort as he held out for the draw with Northants nine down, accompanied in the closing overs by his injured captain Alex Wakely batting at No. 11.

A maiden List A century followed against Durham in 2016, but it was a spectacular bowling performance that demanded attention that summer. Bringing spinners back into the game was a priority for the Championship in 2016, but Keogh - with 36 victims in 44 first-class appearances at the time - would be the first to admit that nobody had him in mind. To his delight, he returned 9 for 52 to skittle Glamorgan at Wantage Road, the sixth-best figures in Northamptonshire's history.
